The beauty of a simple gesture

In the manga "Monster" that I am reading, the doctor is taking fire arms training from a veteran who lives in a rural area alone with the orphaned child of someone he has killed during a war.

The Veteran (A healthy man in his 50s or 60s) tells the doctor that the girl never smiles and feels that she will always despise him as long as he lives, he himself being a hardened veteran does not break expression. During his stay, the doctor shares his native lands cooking (Japanese) with chopsticks provide and the little girl takes to it quite easily. The Veteran struggles, dropping food which prompts the doctor to snickers. One day the Veteran returns to find a note (A letter of parting from the doctor) and more Japanese food which he shares with the girl. He still has not mastered the use of chop sticks which causes the girl to snicker and smile. This causes the veterans eyes to tear up with joy.

The light hearted and kind doctor infected those around him with his positivity without realizing it. Positivity is infectious. It goes straight to the heart and spreads to those around us. It is not something forced but that naturally intertwines into our system, going from one person to the next.

My theory is that we should try to be positive, enjoy life and indulge in happiness. It will spread and effect our actions passively. Before we know it we will be surrounded by positivity, seen in those around us. So don't "Try to do something positive or nice." just aim to be positive.

Let's start a pandemic of joy.

The value of life

I am currently reading a manga titled "Monster". A doctor saves the life of a child who he later discovers is a heartless killer.

Can one life carry more weight that another. What determines the value of a life? Status, Income, Ability? As the doctor determined, no life can be placed before another, all life bears the same wait and carries equal value. We all get 1 life to live, no more, no less. The loss of a life is without question always a negative occurrence.

Is it not good if a killer is put to death or a person that did atrocious things? It is still a loss, what was gained from their deaths. It just added to the body count. A person cannot pay for a crime or fault if they are not alive to do so. Life can be a much heavier burden than death. I would rather have the person at fault face their crimes and atone as long as it takes. You take a life, you should give your life to this to repent. We should under no circumstances celebrate a death, no matter how vile the person. It is a human life that can longer atone and the negativity they caused will remain with us, uncured.

I am currently in Chapter 17 of this story and the doctor is struggling with the thought of righting the "mistake" of saving the child's life (who is now a 20 year old man) by taking it. I hope he does not bloody the hands that have given so many another chance at life.

Inspiration

Recently I am feeling an abundance of thoughts coursing through my mind.

On the daily I review Web Comics, read Scary Stories, Follow a Blog and Read Manga. I have this pattern that is a constant for me on weekdays, yet provides essential and dynamic inspiration. I feel the need to write, to express myself and my thoughts. I have not felt this way in some time, since my high school days creating games to play with friends and writing poetry for girls in college.

I am very much alive and at home in this state of being. I don't even question my need to exist as often I would in the past, despite the simple means by which I live. As long as my mind is allowed to grow and my horizons are expanding I am satisfied with life, looking forward to each moment and walking past hardships without getting dragged down.

I owe much of this feeling to the author of the blog I hold is such high regards. I also owe much thanks to a good friend whom always indulges my intellectual discussion and brings new thought to the table.

Thank you
